Father’s Day may have come and gone, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t continue showing love and appreciation for your fathers, even in their old age. In fact, it’s now that they need you the most.

With their conditions making them unable to perform tasks that used to be so easy for them, they may not be as independent and self-sufficient as they used to. In fact, they may feel lost, isolated, lonely, and out of place.

Even if you have spent on dinners and gifts for your elderly dads on Father’s Day, that doesn’t mean it stops there. In fact, fancy gifts and costly dinner isn’t how appreciating your father should be all about. It’s really about the little things that you do for them.

Here are some activity ideas that you may find useful if you want to make your fathers feel loved, cared for, and remembered–even if it’s not Father’s Day.

1. Spend a day in the park together. If the weather’s nice, you can plan a day in the part, just you and him or even with the whole family. If your father is on a wheelchair, ensure that the part is accessible. You may also consider just having a picnic, playing a game, taking a walk, or everything of that to make your time worthwhile. It’s also a great time to relax and catch up with your dad. Just make sure you’re close to shaded areas and there are nearby restrooms. If you can’t go to a park, even a small spread with family together is enough.

2. Go to a ball game. Does your father have a favorite sport and favorite team? Why not try to get them to watch a pro ball game. If it’s outdoors, make sure you pack in sunscreen, a hat, and lots of water.

3. Have a movie marathon. Remember when you used to watch movies together growing up? Now the tables have turned, but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be any less fun. This activity is perfect for elderly dads who may have a hard time going out due to their condition.

4. Go on a pampering spree. Treat your dad to a day of rest and relaxation. Get them to a spa for a massage and some treatments, maybe add in a professional shave and a fresh haircut, too.

5. Visit a local museum. To help keep your dad sharp and informed, take your family to a local museum or historical site. They even offer special admission rates for seniors.
