Do you know of, or suspect, an elderly loved to be abused, neglected, or exploited? Here are some signs of elder abuse to watch out for and what you can do to make it stop.

Contrary to what many people may believe, elder abuse, or abuse in general, is more than just physical. Sometimes, some signs of elder abuse can’t be found on the body. It may not be so obvious, and the act of abuse is more insidious than you think.

Elder abuse can be physical, emotional, sexual, and even financial in nature. Oftentimes, it’s people close to the elderly victims who are the perpetrators. This is because as older adults age, they become more frail and therefore more dependent on others. They may not be able to stand up to bullying, manipulation, exploitation, or abuse. They may  not be able to fight back.

If you suspect that an elderly person is at risk from an abusive caregiver or family member, speak up and seek help. Everyone deserves to live safely and have peace of mind. They also deserve respect and dignity.
