So the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) due to the coronavirus pandemic may be extended. That is still left for the government to decide. One this is for sure, however–we should take extra precautions to keep our elderly loved ones, our grandparents, safe during this time. After all, they are the ones who are most vulnerable.

While everyone has been ordered to stay at home, keeping yourself active can be challenging. Even for older adults like your grandparents. However, like you, they also need to be in good shape. Keeping them active can also help them maintain strength, balance, and flexibility. This may also help strengthen their immune system.

If your grandparent has been active before the ECQ and usually go out to walk or work, then keeping themselves active can be easy. It is just important to make sure that they are safe. You also have to reduce the risk of accidents and falls.

Here are some tips to help you keep your grandparents active during this enhanced community quarantine.

Encourage physical activity

If they are engaged in physical activities outside the house before, they may still continue doing so in the house. Let them keep their exercise routine, but only within the house.

Avoid a sedentary lifestyle.

This can be done by making your grandparents sit less and move more. Whether it’s just getting food from the fridge, let them do this so they also have a sense of accomplishment. Furthermore, let them do light chores just so they keep themselves moving.

Move your way

If adults are too busy to set aside time for exercise, encourage them to do their daily activities on a more sprightly manner. Make them more energetic.

Stay safe always.

Of course, there are certain exercises that are appropriate for the elderly. What you can easily do may not be so easy on them. Make sure that you put their safety as a priority. You may also check out online resources or even videos for exercises that are suitable for the elderly while you are all on enhanced community quarantine.

This situation doesn’t have to make you feel trapped. Find more fulfilling things to do, especially with your loved ones.
